PPC25: Celestial Magic

So… in our last post, the sample that I showed you was pretty much representative of what the final design will look like. I’m satisfied that we’ve solidified the features for this bag and now all that’s left is to name this design, make some more show samples and write the instructions… well that’s over simplifying it of course but it always feels good to get to this point with a new design and with that, here’s the latest sample we’ve created…

First of all, as a full-on fan of all things “Laurel Burch”, this fabric was a pleasure to work with. It doesn’t look like your standard “Laurel Burch” fare. Some have asked why the closure is a good deal wider than other closures we’ve used and this is actually by design because this pouch area is more than an inch wider than our other “phone-dedicated” areas so that even the larger phones on the Market will fit inside it. But my concern was that if the closure was too thin, a smaller phone might actually be able to fall out undetected. An unforeseen side benefit to the larger closure is that you can fussy-cut a fun area of a print to showcase here. 🙂

For this sample, I purposely cut the little ring tab in exterior fabric so it would show easily against the contrast on the side panels.

That’s because I’ve been disappointed that the shots I’ve shown so far of these rings tabs were pretty hard to see (contrast on contrast). And here’s the deal… I’m actually kinda diggin’ this look! 🙂

Here’s a good look at the back side of this bag. There’s a total of four zippered areas in this design. One (as shown) on the back side of this bag, one on the inside, and two for entry into each of the two completely separated interior areas!

This little bag holds a whole lot more than you would think. With all the components of wallet included here, you can leave your stand alone wallet at home which leaves quite a lot of room for “other stuff”. I normally carry my reading glasses, a makeup case, a package of tissues, and a mask or two, PLUS I can place my passport in the pocket behind the coin purse along with my checkbook register and any other important papers I need to save!

So now… let’s talk about some important stuff…

the fabric: is from the Celestial Magic collection for Clothworks and its by the incomparable Laurel Burch!

the size: 8.5″ wide X 6″ tall X 3.5″

the anticipated release date: it’s still a little early in the process so far but right now I’m hoping to be able to publish this pattern sometime in mid to late August 2021. And finally….

It’s hard to tell from the photo, however, could there be an option to make the strap a little wider. It might be more comfortable on the shoulder. As is, the strap looks like it’s about 1-inch wide. Other than that, looks like CELESTIAL MAGIC is another winner! Congratulations.

Since the strap is attached with snap hooks you can absolutely choose any width strap you;d like. Good question.
      🙂

Thanks Nancy– I sure have enjoyed carrying it myself and I think it’ll appeal to a lot of folks! (At least I hope so!) 🙂

Beautiful job matching the stripes on the flap to the front!! I think this is the purse I’ve been waiting for but didn’t know it!!

Does this bag use binding to cover seams?

    • Kat on June 20, 2021 at 8:43 am

On the inside it does, yes. 🙂

I like the looks and capacity of this bag. Like the Everyday Attaché, and the Walkabout Wallet, well organized and a secure place for everything. Very practical.
    I’d call it Practi-Pak

      Thanks for the suggestion AlmaLou!

I’d call it, “A Place For Everything”

    • Kat on June 30, 2021 at 6:36 am

Great name Linda, but unfortunately its already in use by another pattern company! 🙂

Love your bags and this new one. If you have not used this name–here’s my suggestion. the Zip Along. I am wanting to order the pattern when available and I do love the “Celestial” fabric you used!

    • Kat on June 30, 2021 at 6:39 am

Thanks so much for the suggestion Celeste! Zip Along is however really similar (though not quite the same) as several bag patterns already on the Market so it makes me a little nervous! 🙂 I so appreciate you sending it though! 🙂

Love the new bag and the Laurel Burch fabrics you’ve made it in. I am sooo sad that I can no longer purchase your patterns as I would love this one and the one you have just discontinued. Rosemary Otter. UK

I’m loving this bag! Exactly everything I normally carry on a daily basis will fit! How about
“Kit & Kaboodle” because that’s what it holds?

    Or maybe Kat & Kaboodle!
