PPC28: I’m on the Kaffe Train

So… in 19 years of designing bag patterns,
I’ve never featured fabric designed by the incomparable Kaffe Fassett
in one of my samples before, BUT…

There’s a 1st time for everything!

And actually, I’ve had this fabric in my stash for literally YEARS! I’ve considered using it several times but for some reason it just seemed right this time. Overall I like the way it turned out. I had originally intended to use a “goldish” fabric as the bias trim for that closure but reconsidered just in time to rip it all out and switch to black and I’m SO glad i did. Black looks so much better with those black with gold zips, right?
And here’s a couple of good looks… one straight-on of the Bag Front (at left), and one diagonal view of the Bag Back.
And now, two interior shots. At left is the interior of the “Secret Niche” area which is secured by a mag snap and at right you’ll see the interior of the Phone Pocket which is secured by a wide closure with a mag-snap. And just so you know, I’ve done my checking and this area is large enough to accommodate every single smart phone on the Market today (as of 2/17/23) with room to spare.
The dimensions of the Double Take is 8.5″ long X 5″ tall X 3″ and I know that may sound small, but I’ve been carrying one of my gorilla samples for this design for several months now and it easily holds all of the items I feel I have to have every time I leave my home. It always surprises me how much stuff I can cram inside! It’s light, compact and what’s more, it easily fits into my carry-on at the airport so I don’t have to count it as my personal item!

So in closing…

This is the last sample we’ve created in support of our “Double Take” pattern. Right now we’re waiting on comments and pictures from our pattern testers and feverishly putting the final touches on the instructions and pattern templates in anticipation of our 1st pattern release of 2023, sometime in mid-March.

    Would be wonderful for some u tube videos on your purses, especially the bella wallet, just having a little difficulty. And videos always helps.

      Yes I know everyone would like videos but they would be very expensive to produce. Have you tried using our free pdf download tutorials? Most folks really like them. 🙂

    Another great version. I really like the black binding with the black and gold zipper. It just seems to make the lines/features of the purse pop.

    Have you tried sheep or goat leather? I’ve come across some and really want to try out this design with it.

      Good questions Sue- I havent tried sheep or goat leather and have no idea about the thickness or flexibility of it. For that reason I would hesitate to recommend using it because a project with tighter corners (like the Double Take) can have bulky type issues with a fabric like leather. Additionally since a great deal of the construction is done with the project “inside-out”, I have had problem in the past with resources such as vinyl or leather being a bit “sticky” and difficult to get turn right side out. I would advise proceeding with caution but I’d love to know how it fares for you should you decide to use it so I can share your results with our other customers? 🙂

      Ahhhh! That was one of the “gorilla” samples I made at the start. The design has changed a bit since then, but I fin I really enjoy carrying this bag myself! 🙂

    I find that you instructions are very clear and quite easy to follow. The additional comments that you have for difficult areas are clear and easy to understand.

    Lovely bag. I was wondering if you remembered what the fabric was named. You never know if you’ll get lucky and find a couple yards if you’ve got the fabric name or SKU. Anything you can tell me would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

      The selvage doesnt seem too helpful but it says “#80 Daisy” and it was made by Westminster Fabrics. I have a small amount of fabric left of it that Id be willing to send you. It’s not enough for the strap as well but you’d probably get a purse out of it. Send me your address by email if you’re interested.
