PPC30: A Paisley Empress

So…

THIS was the fabric collection (by Chong-A Hwang) that I randomly found a few month’s ago that SO inspired me, that I used this collection to create an entirely new and MUCH needed Guardian sample, AND I made plans to integrate this collection into my plans for our next new pattern!

More about amazing fabric at the end of this post, but for now, let me give you a tour of this beautiful sample!

Here’s a good look at both the front (at left),
and the back( at right) of our new design,
(which will eventually be our 1st new pattern of 2024).

This bag features two completely separate, zippered pouches. The front pouch is wide enough and also deep enough to hold a full-sized wallet (among other smaller items). The back zippered pouch is a good deal taller, deeper and perfect for tall thin items, such as a passport and your cellphone!
Heck, it’ll even accommodate an eye glass case!

Of course the crux of this design is the “lid-like” flap closure on the front pouch. If you’ve been following this edition of “Purse Pattern Chronicles”, then you know that it took me several tries to get this flap to not only be functional, but also attractive!

The photo above left shows you the interior of the front pouch area (complete with my oversized wallet). My wallet is wide, but not extraordinarily so, but it definitely FAT! So fat in fact that I sometimes can’t fit it into the bag I want to carry, but, as you can see it fits just fine into this pouch.

The above right photo reveals how back zippered pouch complete with a solid glasses case (and no… my wallet cannot fit in here). This back area is deeper than the front pouch and definitely not as roomy, but roomy enough to handle a glasses case, a passport or 2, and various cosmetics.

And I’ve included these photos to give you a relative idea of bag size (compared to me), and to demonstrate how it can easily be carried as both a conventional shoulder bag and also as a handy, hands-free cross-body bag!

Which brings me back to this amazing fabric and how perfectly it plays with this bag design (and most any other for that matter)!

It’s part of Chung-A Hwang’s “Empress Collection” and I was So enamored by it that I added it to my website (in half-yard increments).

I like the bag but I’d like to see a smaller version – just big enough for phone, and keys.

This wallet is very attractive with the tapered flap in front! I love the fabric also. Will the Easy Go Wallet fit into this bag?

Good question Beth, the Easy Go Wallet is a bit too tall for this new design, but the Walkabout Wallet WILL fit inside it. 🙂

Oh well… as much as I’d like to say that’ll happen, I’m afraid it won’t, we’re just now getting ready to send everything to the testers and hoping for a late February release! 🙂
