in our last post I showed the 2nd bag of this new design that we’ve made up in cork… this one COMPLETELY in cork (except of course for the lining). And just so you know, it worked out great. I would invite you to check out “Tips for Working with Cork Fabric” if you have any questions but for now let’s move along to this new sample which we created using a color-saturated print by Kaffe Fassett.
I know this is hard to believe but this is honestly the very first time I’ve ever worked with a Kaffe Fassett print, especially considering how prolific a designer he is. And to tell you the truth, I saved this fabric for last, mainly because I wasn’t sure how it would work with this design, but seeing it paired with this faux patent leather makess me wonder why I ever doubted how it would turn out! 🙂
The first time I used this faux patent leather I opted to only use it on the Bag Bottom area, using black quilter’s cotton on the zipper panel & Bag Handle area. But for this sample I used it everywhere “contrasting fabric” was called for in this design and while it wasn’t always “easy” to work with, the final result sure is YUMMY!
Now I have to admit that I’ve never been a “backpack girl” but I actually have enjoyed carrying this bag this way, But I also enjoy using the “grab n’ go handle on occasion! I’ve even been known on occasion to move one of the snap hook at the bottom of the bag so I can throw this bag over my shoulder for while. I like having multiple options and I know many of you do as well! 🙂
But one of the things I’m most excited about concerning this bag is this little lock we’ve added. It’s actually an adorable little lever lock that can be hooked thru the two zipper pulls making it pretty much impossible for a thief to get into your bag unnoticed by you! You can get more info and see a few better pictures here.
And finally, here’s a nice inside shot which gives you a good idea of how WIDE the bag opening is and how roomy the interior is, and on top of all of that, there’s a nice wide interior zippered pocket to sequester loose items so they’re easily found.
and now, a few words about this incredibly lush fabric. As already mentioned, this fabric is part of the Kaffe Fassett Collective (which is distributed under the Free Spirit umbrella) and it’s called “Lacy Leaves“.
Do we sell it in on our website? The short answer is no, but primarily because it isn’t available thru distributors and must be wholesaled directly from Free Spirit (with a massive initial order), but here’s the good news… Kaffe Fassett fabrics are masively popular and therefore available thru MANY stores and innumerable online sources.
And now…. it’s YOUR turn!
We’re almost to the end here folks! I have one more sample to show you and then it will be time to choose the cover model and get it all printed up for sale! So remember, we love reading your comments and answering your questions too, so please feel free to leave either or both in the space provided below.
