Introducing: A New Hire!

So…

we hired a new employee a few weeks ago. His name is Pippin and here he is.

Some of you might remember that we’ve had a vacancy ever since Jeter, our senior “studiocat” passed away in November of 2013 after a brief but devastating illness. He was only 9 years old and I’m really not sure who has grieved more for his loss, me …. or his best friend, Joba.

My friends and family all encouraged me to hire a replacement, but it was just too painful to think about. After all… Jeter wasn’t just a great employee, he was a most excellent companion as well.

But here of late I’ve found myself thinking about taking on an apprentice studiocat, so when my husband came home and told me of a potential candidate, I decided to meet him for a brief interview and he was hired on the spot.
Let’s face it, he’s cute as a button, but only time will tell if he has the aptitude to be an eventual asset to the business.

To his credit, he has shown a definite interest in the sewing machine, but mostly at this point only in the moving parts of the machine itself. Hmmmm…

On the other hand though, he seems to have an extremely short attention span and is easily distracted. I often find him daydreaming, fooling around and even sleeping when he’s on the job.

So far at least, paperwork and Pippin are not a good fit… unless of course you’re looking for someone to punch holes… with his TEETH.

Yes, his techniques are a bit crude at this point. We’ll definitely need to be doing a little retraining on some of the finer points of general officework.

Order fulfillment seems to be a little advanced for his skill set at this stage of his training, and when we tried his paw at packaging, tagging and stocking hardware he gave me a little attitude as you can see. (at left)

I’m hoping that we won’t have to invest in any anger-management classes for our Pippin. Maybe he was just having a bad day? On the other hand, our new guy seems to have a natural affinity when it comes to guarding the perimeter.

I doubt there will be any squirrels or neighborhood cats sneeking up on us undetected, that’s for sure!

And on a lighter note, Pippin can generally be relied upon to supply a little comic relief for both me AND Joba. One might even say that he’s naturally gifted as a standup comedian. He keeps me laughing and even though I’ve yet to see Joba crack a smile at him, I have caught him chuckling at some of his antics!

So there ya go!

We have every reason to be optimistic about young Pippin’s future in this business. To tell you the truth… we’re crazy about him! (Yep… even Joba… I think!)

So we’ll keep you apprised of his progress in future posts and just in case you’re one of our many FaceBook followers who has commented to us about missing “Your Almost Daily Purr” updates, you might be pleased to know that we’ve have somewhat revived that series!

And now…. it’s YOUR turn!

I’d love to know what you think of our new protege? Do you think he looks like a good fit for our company? And remember, we love reading your comments and answering your questions too, so please feel free to leave them in the space provided below.
