My 4 Favorite Fabric Designers… Revisited

So…

a little over 5 year ago I wrote a post detailing who my Four Favorite Fabric Designers were, but five years can be a long time in the designing world (and sometimes not…), but either way, I thought it might be about time we revisited this topic.

So are these still our favorite fabric designers? Or are there new designers that have come forward with fresh, new fabrics that work perfectly with our bag designs?

I just recently discovered Chong-A Hwang‘s fabric with our most recent release, the Easy Go Wallet! Of course it was the “cat fabric” above that originally caught my eye along with several coordinates that were in the same collection, but now that I’ve had a closer look at Chong-A’s collection I’m hooked! I love how most of her fabrics feature metallic highlights! Just check out one of her new designs (pictured in center above) which I used in our Tandem Tote pattern!

I’ve been using quite a few of Ann Lauer‘s fabrics (of Grizzly Gulch Gallery) in my bags of late. I especially loved her “cat collection” which we featured in many of our Packlets (from several cycles back). Ann has gone on to feature dogs, horses and most recently butterflies (see above at right) in her collections which I used in a recent sample for our Easy Go Wallet!

P. Carter Carpin is a relatively new fabric designer I first met at the Mountain Quiltfest in Pigeon Forge, TN. I love her whimsical designs which always seem to be perfectly sized for bags which you can see in our Easy Go Wallet ( in center above and in our Bella BiFold (at right above). She’s a hard-working independent designer and even though she doesn’t really sell thru typical channels, she has an Etsy store you can checkout HERE.

Paula Nadelstern– is STILL one of my favorite fabric designers! I’ve been using fabric designed by Paula (for Benartex) for several years now and when it comes to focal print fabrics, Paula’s designs never disappoint! We even featured one of Paula’s fabrics on the cover of our HipBag Hybrid pattern (see above left).

And if you’re familiar with my work then you know I have a penchant for creating kaleidoscope designs via fussy-cutting, but here’s the deal… when I use Paula’s fabrics I can usually skip the fussy-cutting since many of her collections ALREADY feature gorgeous free-standing kaleidoscope designs, a couple of which we featured in our Flaptastic design (see above right)! I can’t wait to see what she creates next but in the meantime, here’s a fun story about Paula you might enjoy reading!

And now, it’s YOUR turn!
