PPC22: Dragonflies at Night

So…

in our last post I revealed the 1st REAL sample of what will soon be our new pattern for Summer, but I also promised that our next sample would be made in cotton so I could REALLY test out the foundation materials, particularly in the area just below the entry zipper and here is the result of my efforts!

I actually fell in love with this dragonfly fabric from the moment I saw it and was torn between using a piece of black Cuddle Suede as the contrast element or this blue swirl cotton, but I knew that if I used the black that it might just disqualify the sample from eventually being our cover model for the pattern (which generally happens to samples that are predominantly black).
By now you may have noticed that the front of this sample has a zippered pocket and the truth is that this is an easy option to take advantage of with this design.
That’s because the pattern pieces for the Bag Back can easily be substituted if desired for the flat Bag Front we featured in our last post. As a matter of fact… these are also the same pieces used for the lining which means that this bag actually has the potential for two exterior pockets and two interior ones. Of course that’s a LOT of zippers, but I have a feeling there’s someone out there that will actually make their bag in this way!
And speaking of the Bag Back, here’s a closer look at the back zippered pocket area including our new bag locking system featuring this Bag Lock! That’s right, the main entrance to this bag can easily be secured against any pilferers by simply hooking the zippers with this beautiful lock! And don’t worry, it takes TWO hands to release this lock so I truly feel that this system would make it complicated enough that most anyone would notice if someone was attempting to get into the bag they were wearing on their back!
And speaking of the Bag interior, here’s a decent shot of it and as you can see I added a zippered pocket which brings the grand total of zippers used in this particular sample to FIVE! ( But after all… what would you expect from a zipper designer, right?)

And now let’s talk a bit about this fabulous fabric because I know there a few out there who will run right out and get it (even though this is a fairly lousy picture of it)!

It’s called “Fly By Night” and it was created by Chong-a-Hwang for Timeless Treasures and it was a pleasure to work with!

Bag Measurements– This bag measures 12″ wide X 12″ tall X 3.5″ front to back. It doesn’t have a name (as usual) and I’m wide open for suggestions!

So do stay tuned for our next post in this series because I promise I still have a few tricks up my sleeve! We’re really just getting started here and please don’t forget I’m still in the market for a name here, so if you have a suggestion, I’m all ears!

And now…. it’s YOUR turn!

And remember, we love reading your comments and answering your questions too, so please feel free to leave either or both in the space provided below.

The Split sunrise bag. I love the shape and potential here. Although it doesn’t look as if it could handle an absolutely full school day, it does look like it can handle a light school day. I like the bright seperable zipper and the various options so far!

I would agree Jodie- it’s really not meant to be a book bag, 🙂

I love it! My daughter and I went to Disney World last Oct. and NYC at Xmas time. Both times we Used backpacks so we’d be “hands free”, but we wore them in front for security. Awkward, to say the least. This certainly seems like it will solve that problem! Can’t wait to make it – one for each of us!

I like this one more every time you post more about it! I don’t know if the name “Split Purse-onality” is out there but, it could work.

I like that name idea Lynn, but there’s actually more than one bag pattern on the market with that name already. I dont know how that happened without a lawsuit! 😀 But thanks for the cute idea!
