PPC33: the Cignet Phone Pal Pattern Cover Reveal

CignetCover

So... in our last post we had a little fun letting YOU be the designer and choosing which of our bag samples YOU would choose to grace the pattern cover for our next new pattern of 2025, the Cignet Phone Pal. Thanks SO much to everyone who voiced their opinion! Pattern design can be rather solitary work and I REALLY like hearing the logic behind which bag my customers would choose for the cover.

And here's the deal, the best part about this cycle was that SO many of you ALSO included your reasons why you chose the cover sample that you did. I LOVE that! Your opinions were invaluable and I really was able to take them into account this time! THANK YOU!

So I really loved this sample, but since it was our prototype, it simply didn't have all the same features that our final design has. Most notably, the side walls were not as wide as they will be in the final design, so sadly, it was OUT!

For this sample, I used fabric designed by one of my new favorites, Anna Nyman!

This fabric is admittedly quite busy & bold, and even though it's a personal favorite of mine, I'm afraid that the fabric will outshine, or at the very least, overwhelm the features, so for that reason, it was OUT!

And if there's two things I STILL get a kick out of doing, it fussy-cutting and fun piecework, & this sample combined BOTH!!

For this reason alone, you might be thinking this is the sample I chose for the cover, but you'd be wrong. If you've been following our exploits for any length of time, you'd know that I've learned my lesson the hard way by placing a complicated bag front on the pattern cover, so for this reason, it was OUT!

BUT--- I've had so many inquiries about this bag front, that rather than include the pattern pieces for this bag front within the pattern, I might just offer them for free on my website as a free download!

Happy-Go-Lucky - 06/06/25

And this is the 2nd time I've used this fabric by Jennifer Heynan on one of my samples (the last time was on the Double Take pattern), and this is extremely unusual!

That's because I've always felt that this fabric is as close to perfection for handbags as any I have seen! BUT--- I'm also keenly aware that it just doesn't resonate with most people, (for whatever reason), so for that reason... it is regrettably OUT!

And as much as I loved this fabric, using it for this design really tested my resolve & my tenacity. That's not to say that I don't love the final result, because I most definitely do, BUT--- because this fabric is not what I would classify as easy-to-use for the Cignet Phone Pal design, it is OUT!

I've had this fabric in my stash for a year or so, and as I was digging thru waiting for something to "grab me", this fabric caught my eye in a way it never had before! I had used another fabric in this collection for a couple of sample before, but this seemed perfect for the Cignet Phone Pal.

The only thing was... it wasn't. 🙁  Yep, it happens now & then. It had seemed like a terrific vertical print, but once I made the sample, the print seemed to be more horizontal, than vertical. Oh, it's still a pretty bag, but it didnt turn out the way I envisioned it, so for that reason, it was OUT!

So...if you haven't already guessed, (by process of elimination), it's with great pleasure that I now reveal the official pattern cover for the "Cignet Phone Pal"!

I was drawn immediately to this Shangri-La print, since I had used another SKU from this collection in a High Seas Convertible sample! But here's the deal... I've never EVER chosen to use the very first true sample I've made for a particular design to be the "Cover Model, and this has really made me second guess my choice!

So did we make the perfect choice?

Truth is, only time will tell! The Cignet Phone Pal pattern has been very well received so far, and even though I easily could have gone with a couple other choices for our cover model, I know from experience that had I chose another it probably wouldn't make a bit of difference "sales-wise". I feel good about this choice. I especially feel good that it was validated by SO MANY of you either by commenting on the post, or on social media or even by email! THANK YOU for all of your feedback!

So... all that's left now, is to RELEASE THE PATTERN!
