PPC35: Let’s Try it in Denim

20260406_100000

So... I've been waiting for a long time to fix up a sample in denim, and I was thinking that this just may be the bag design for a cool denim finish!

I was excited about this particular denim as it was quite lightweight (they said it was 6 oz), and denim this flexible is kinda hard to find. I liked the way it performed and I may just use it again for another sample as I find this sample a bit on the boring side! (I'll make up for this in the next sample!)

Here's a good look at two of the storage areas for this design.

  • At left- the first look I've given you at these two areas. The front-most pocket is the smaller of the two, but still quite roomy. Its the perfect place to place important items that you need quick access to, like your key fob, a small wallet or a cosmetic case.
  • The back-most area is a large main storage area, large enough in fact for a good sized iPad, along with all of your other everyday supplies and maybe even a lightweight sweater?
  • At right- My favorite feature for this bag... its a dedicated bottle pocket with a cord-lock closure, something folks have been asking us to include for some time. My intention is to make this pocket a bit taller in a future sample.

And here's a look at the bag back area.

  • At left- I really like this zippered pocket. It's PLENTY big enough for virtually ANY cell phone currently on the market, PLUS... I plan on including an optional credit card holder here,  since most folks find that handy and it'll be pretty secure held close to your body whether you're wearing it as a sling bag or as a backpack.
  • At right- A good look at the convertible strap which allows you to wear this bag as a backpack (when the strap is unzipped w/the snaphooks each snapped into both sides of the bag), or as a sling bag (when the strap is zipped closed and both snaphooks are snapped into the same side D-ring.)

And now.... it's YOUR turn!

So... please stay tuned for the next post in this series, because I think I'm FINALLY ready to start making up some show bags, worthy of potentially being on the cover for this pattern! Woo-Hoo, let's GO!!

And... if you have comments you'd like to share, suggestions you'd like to make, or questions you'd like to ask about this design in general or this sample in specific, please feel free to leave either or both in the space provided below.

I like the fact that you have made this in a plain fabric with beautiful accent trim and zippers. It makes it very easy to see all the details of your purse. I think your purses are cute with multiple fabrics, but it is very hard to “read” them when trying to decide if it is a pattern that will work for me. I think you might consider always making a simpler sample of your purse patterns. I think this one will work for me when it is finished. I like the bottle holder and the easy access for the phone. It looks like it would be an excellent travel purse.

I’ll try to remember that Michele. I’m always looking for a striking showbag when I make one up, but your point of view makes sense.
      🙂

This bag is really nice. I like the solid with the printed contrast. Would love to make one myself. When will the pattern be available

we’re a good ways off from publication just yet, but I’m hoping for sometime in June.

I agree with Michele. It would be great if there were some inner zipped pockets as well. I see this as a great travel bag, and shopping too. Hence the inner security pockets. And I like that the outer pockets are zipped and smaller for phone and keys.
I’m rembering the Guardian, and the inner pocket. It was great for travel and carrying things that you didn’t want to be exposed, like jewelry and money!
    Keep up the great work!

Thanks for commenting Alma Lou! I’ll consider this, but I’m afraid the design of this bag, doesn’t necessarily lend itself well to inner pockets. I would suggest instead adding a smaller zippered storage unit. I think it would be easier to handle and get at, than having a pocket against a back wall and having to move many interior items to get to it and then unzip it.

Hello Kat! I love this pattern. I’d love to see how it holds a bottle in the side pocket. Is the pocket very deep?

    • Kat on April 15, 2026 at 2:38 pm

That’s a good idea, Cynthia! I’ll try to include a photo with a bottle in the pocket soon. 🙂

I’m excited about this one and look forward to making one. The one made in denim has me wondering if this pattern would be a good palette for embroidery. It appears so.

Thanks for the comment Donna. I’m not into embroidery for myself but I love to see it done well! Would it work out OK with the front part of the bag being broken up by those 2 zippers? 🙂

I really like all the features on this. I don’t like the contrasting zipper tape colors or the plain fabric. But for a sampler it really shows the features off. I’d like to see a photo with a bottle in the pocket. I think this would be a great travel bag!

I don’t know why I didnt think of taking a photo with a water bottle in the pocket, but I’ll be sure to do so in a future phto session! 🙂

I agree with this comment. I do think it helps to see the outter design of the bag but hope that you will make a or some samples in your usual beautiful fabrics with more invisible zippers. I don’t want a bag that screams ROB ME HERE.

Do stay tuned then! I have much more to show you!
