PPC30: Feelin’ Groovy

So… it happens every year! All of our “forward-motion” toward a new pattern comes to a grinding halt in early-October as we can get organized & ready to make that long trip to Houston for the Quilt Market, followed by the Quilt Festival… (the GrandDaddy of ALL the Quilt Festivals)!

Afterwards, when we get home, we struggled to get unpacked and caught up from being away from home & the business for TWO SOLID WEEKS! Which means it’s usually almost Thanksgiving before we can even think about picking back up where we left off, & unfortunately, this year was no exception!

Which makes it all the sweeter when I can finally sit myself down in front of my sewing machine again!
And that’s exactly what we did this week… and it felt FANTASTIC!

And I REALLY like how this sample turned out, thanks entirely to this fantastic fabric by Jason Yenter of “In the Beginning Fabrics“!

At far left: a good look at the Bag Back. I decided against placing a zipper pocket here as it would’ve added whole ‘nother layer of bulk that I was trying to avoid, as the whole premise of this bag was that it would be a minimalistic alternative to larger and thicker “sling-type” bags currently on the Market.

At center: a good look at this bag which can be carried as a shoulder bag, or cross-body as a sling-style bag. The smaller size of this bag will be perfect for a day of shopping, touring, or if you’re like me and prefer carrying as little as possible when you’re out and about, it may just be the perfect “everyday bag” for you!

At left: And just for reference, I can easily carry my wallet, a ample-sized glasses case and also a lipstick and a couple of pens in the larger outside Pouch. The top zippered pocket is perfect for my key fob, as well as my phone (a Samsung Galaxy20, which is a fairly large sized phone).

Here’s a couple of shots that demonstrate how this little bag can be carried cross-body, on both right AND left shoulders, (your preference). It’s lightweight and can even be carried almost undetectably under a sweater or a jacket, making it totally perfect as an everyday AND as travel bag!

And now... a few words about this delicious fabric which was a dream to work with!

It’s called “A Groovy Garden” and as already mentioned, and as is typical for Jason Yenter, it’s a “four-border” digital print, which makes this focal print PERFECT for many smaller bag patterns. It’s also being marketed in a “brighter” colorway, but I prefer these jewel-tones which are right in my wheelhouse!

And now you can pick up some of this beautiful fabric right now in our shop! Each cut includes 4 repeats, each of which is sized perfectly for MANY of the bag patterns we’ve designed! Just click HERE to check it out! 🙂

And the best thing about this fabric?

My studio assistant LOVES this fabric almost as much as I do! And this amazing border print really brings out his best features, no?

And now…. it’s YOUR turn!

I’d love to know what you think of this design thus far. Does this bag seem like one you might enjoy carrying? And if you have comments you’d like to share, suggestions you’d like to make, or questions you’d like to ask about this design in general or this sample in specific, please feel free to leave either or both in the space provided below.

Is there room for a wallet?

    • Kat on January 15, 2024 at 6:49 am

Yes! I carry a standard sized wallet and it easily fits into the front pouch! If however you carry one of those carryall wallets that also house reading glasses, a memo pad and things like that add to the “girth of a wallet, then it may either be too thick OR, it maybe the only thing you carry in that area. My past blog post show pictures of a wallet AND a glasses case in that front pouch area! 🙂
