it’s time for my favorite post from the Mid-Atlantic Quilt Festival because now I get to show you the quilts that were MY personal favorites from the 2020 show! But first I want to emphasize that I am no expert on quilting. As a matter of fact, I’m really not even a quilter myself having only taken two to full completion, so I’m far from qualified to be a judge! But here’s the thing… I AM a fan and a longtime admirer of excellent quilting and I know what I like, so what you’ll see below simply represents MY personal taste so I hope you enjoy looking at them as much as I did! 🙂
And there’s SO much to look at, enjoy and admire about this unique piece called “Plunge” by Caryl Bryer Fallert-Gentry of Port Townsend, WA. Check out the quilt patterns embedded into the cliff walls on the lower right and the ocean on the upper left and then look closer and note Caryl even managed to included the SHADOWS of the diver on the cliff! AMAZING! (awarded 2nd place in the Innovative category)
And even though this quilt, named “Belladonic Haze“, was awarded 3rd place in the Traditional Quilt category it really had a unique vibe. If you’ll notice in the closeup though, Margaret Solomon Gunn added quite a few fun texture items that almost lend a modern spin to it!
And Sheri Novak Johnson blew the judges away in the Best Longarm Machine Workmanship category with this piece called “Opulence“. But what I loved most about this piece was all of those itty bitty spaghetti strap type stuff going on out and in the border area. I mean, who has the patience to make all of those? And even in the scalloped edging? They’re incredible!
And finally, how could I possibly resist the optimism of this fun piece by Ann Horton, aptly named “Reunion with Spring”? Of course the bunnies are adorable but the added texture and hand embroidery was totally wonderful! (Best Sewing Machine Workmanship- Traditional)
So… aren’t they all fantastic?!?
And now it’s YOUR turn!
I’d love to know what you think of the quilts I chose to include here? Which of these quilts was YOUR favorite? And remember, we love reading your comments and answering your questions too, so please feel free to leave either or both in the space provided below.

I love your quilt roundups. You always have an eclectic mix of quilts, you aren’t just a blue or a traditional quilt lover. I appreciate that. The cliff divers are truly interesting but the eye! WOW! A museum by me had a display of Caryl’s works and I went thru several times. Once I started pointing out details to the husband, then he was completely blown away. Thanks for sharing. Not many big shows by me anymore.
