The Side Slinger Testing Round

So…

It’s that time again! It’s time to show you what our testers created in the process of testing our pattern instructions for the Side Slinger! Many of you know that one of my favorite parts of the pattern development process is the testing round. I just LOVE seeing what our testers are inspired to create, especially since each one of our testers has their own individual style and several have a real flair for the dramatic! So with that intro…

Let me show you what our testers worked up for this, our 21st cycle of Purse Pattern Chronicles!

(presented in the order in which they were returned to us)

Lori Gates is formerly from West Henrietta, NY but has since relocated to Florida and is obviously a BIGTIME Disney World fan! She’s been testing for us since the Fall of 2008 when we introduced the Boho Baguette and that’s before we even started the first cycle of Purse Pattern Chronicles! WOW! AND… besides being a great seamstress, Lori is an excellent grammatician & proof-reader. She generally finds the most things that need correcting in every set of instructions she take on and I totally appreciate her skillset!

(See below for a great back view and a look at the back zippered pocket.)

Mary Larson of Rochester, MN started testing for us in the 11th cycle of Purse Pattern Chronicles with the Triple Play. Like me, Mary loves working with graphic prints and enjoys pairing them with bold coordinates. I appreciate that Mary is very active on our various social media pages and takes the time to interact with so many of our member. And besides that, her Side Slinger is gorgeous!

(See below for a great view of the front zipper pocket area, and a back shot.)

Georgia Segura started testing for us in the 17th cycle of Purse Pattern Chronicles with the Sling Along. She’s a very enthusiastic tester but she has surely outdone herself this time with this little cutie-pie bag! Georgia’s from Deer Park, TX and is one of the few testers I’ve actually gotten to meet and get to know in person since I see her every year at the Quilt Festival in Houston, TX.

Shannon Maciejewski of Almont, MI joined our testing team in the 9th cycle of Purse Pattern Chronicles with the Wrapsody. I always look forward to the unique exteriors Shannon creates for her bags and this bag is certainly no exception! I mean how many people would actually attempt to match plaids on the diagonal on THIS bag?

(See below for a great back view and side shot of the back zippered pocket. )

Diane Rhodes is from Monroeville, PA and started testing for us back in 2012 in the 6th cycle of Purse Pattern Chronicles with the Uptown Saddlebag. I always look forward to the seeing the bags that Diane creates because of the intricate piecing that generally adorns the exterior, but for her Side Slinger, Diane went for a cool stained glass look while still incorporating the jewel tones she loves!

Beth Revere of Council Grove, Kansas started testing for us with the Wrapsody and I love her version of our Side Slinger bag. Her fabric choices are always stellar and this particular look is fabulous with our “newish” all silver zips!

(see below for a back view and an overhead shot of the mag-snapped phone pocket.)

So that’s how the testing rounds played out for this, the Side Slinger cycle of Purse Pattern Chronicles and didn’t our testers do an exceptional job?

And now it’s YOUR turn!

And here’s the deal… our testers perform a great service for us (and in turn for YOU) in the process of making their test bags. I can’t imagine publishing a new pattern without their input, and if you’d like to leave them some love in the “Comments” section” below I’m sure they’d appreciate it. And if you have any questions about the testing process in general, or any of these bag samples in particular, you can leave those there as well! I’ll do my best to answer them there also!

Obviously, all these ladies are at the top of their game. I especially enjoyed seeing the use of a different fabric for the middle section on the front of two of these. That opens up one’s mind to lots of possibilities for fabric use. For example – that tiny piece of very special fabric that you couldn’t possibly toss, but where could you ever spot light it ? 🙂

Georgia’s idea of continuing the color of the zipper down to the bottom of the bag was an interesting idea and gave a slightly different feel to the appearance of the bag. Nice.

      Great idea Mary! 🙂

May I add one more ‘like’, please. I liked Lori’s use of the red zippers on the front of her bag. They are both functional and artistic. I am always impressed when an object can be used for both those things.

I like thinking our unique zips are both functional AND artistic as well! 🙂

Reading this newsletter is probably one of my favorite monthly online events. I am also a weaver, so every time I look at this site I want to weave a new fabric and turn it into a bag. This month was so exciting to see a new bag AND all the FUN samples. I love that when I sew a bag from Studio Kat I know the directions are 100% correct – evidently thanks to these ladies. When does this roll out for purchase??? My birthday is in August….. makes a great gift for my daughter to buy for me.
