MAQF’25: the Quilts

A painting of a woman in blue dress with balloons.

So… the competition quilts at the Mid-Atlantic Quilt Fest’25 were a lot of fun to see, and below you will find “My Favorite Seven”! Here they are, in NO particular order of preference except for the LAST entry, (which is very special and reminds me of my “free-spirited” granddaughter)! “View of Vernazza“created by Barbara Matzke…

MAQF ’25- the Wearable Art

A mannequin wearing a colorful cape with a sun on it.

So… one of the things I enjoy the most every year about the Mid-Atlantic Quilt Fest,is that they always feature a “Fashion Show”, and while I never get to attend the actual show, the fashions I enjoyed seeing the most this year, (after the fact), are the following four pieces! “Dragon Mistress & Claudette” by Dana…

So… Can you take just ONE MORE sample of our Carolinian design?

Because here’s the deal…I’ve enjoyed carrying my prototype of this design SO much, (I’ve been carrying it since October!), that I’m doing something I only rarely have done in the 20 years in the pattern business!
I’m going to keep one of the Carolinian samples I’ve made for MYSELF!

Mid-Atlantic Quilt Fest’25: the Recap

A woman standing in front of a table with several different items on it.

So… last month we vended at our 7th Mid-Atlantic Quilt Festival. For us, it’s the easiest of all of our shows because…
1- It’s practically in our backyard (Hampton, VA is only 4.5 hours away from our home).
2- Our expenses are minimal compared to Paducah or Houston. Booth expenses, and even hotels & food are MUCH less expensive.
3- This is the smallest of our shows, so there’s less product to pack up & transport, making this show the easiest of all of our shows to prepare & set up for.

PPC32: The Carolinian Testing Rounds

A collection of bags with different designs on them.

So… the holidays can be a hard time to line up folks to test a pattern, but I was fortunate that FIVE of our testers had enough time this winter to test out our new pattern, the Carolinian! I really LOVE seeing what our testers are inspired to create, and the critiques and suggestions they supply definitely go a long way to making our pattern instructions clearer & easier to understand!

Seen at Show: Mid-Atlantic Quilt Festival ’25

A bunch of women with bags in their hands

So… even though I’ve been in business for 20+ years, I still get a BIG kick out of seeing our customers carrying bags they’ve made from our patterns! And what better place to “spy” these customers than at a retail quilt show, right?

And you know what? we “spied” FOURTEEN of our bags “walking the floor” of the Mid-Atlantic Quilt Festival’25! This year the variety of bags we saw “walking” at this show was extraordinary, but one thing is for sure… they were ALL FANTASTIC!

Joann’s is shutting down… NOW WHAT?

A person walking in front of a store.

So, all the buzz at the 2025 Mid-Atlantic Quilt Festival in Hampton, VA, seemed to be about all of the Joann Fabric stores closing down. Folks were all upset about where they would go now for their sewing supplies. I felt bad for them.
