PPC33: Fantasy Garden

So…

with the main design issue for this new pattern resolved & described in the last post in this series, that left me free to concentrate on construction issues going forward.

More specifically, now my goal is to figure out the quickest, easiest, yet most effective sequence in which this bag can be constructed.

So, let me show you around!

Here’s a good front & side view of this design. It’s relatively small, but can hold more items than you would think possible. The front pouch pocket can easily accommodate ANY cell phone on the market right now, and the top zippered storage area is large enough for a good-sized wallet, (stored on a side edge.)

This is the mag-snapped Slip Pocket on the Bag Back, but I have found that it is amply sized for a memo pad, sunglasses, and even a key fob!

And here’s a couple of peeks at how my phone, (a Samsung S24+), looks in the front pouch area of this design.
As you can see, it easily fits with room to spare, (as you can see) for some of the taller phones currently on the Market.

And finally… here’s a closeup look at the interior. I placed my standard-sized wallet inside the main storage area (on its end), & as you can see, it fits easily, w/room to spare, both on either side of my wallet, and in the head-space area above it!

The total dimensions of this bag is 6″ wide X 9″ tall X 1.5″. This pattern is currently in the hands of our amazing pattern testers & we’re aiming for a mid-late July pattern release.

And now… a word about the fabulous fabric I used for this sample!

First let me say, that once I received this fabric, I really wasn’t sure that I would EVER have a sample that would actually work with this colorful, but so visually busy fabric. But having said that, it’s my opinion that this fabric works amazingly well with this design!

It’s called “Fantasy Garden” & it was created by Anna Nyman (a new favorite artist of mine), for Contempo Fabrics!

And now…. it’s YOUR turn!

I’d love to know what you think of this design thus far. Does this bag seem like one you might enjoy carrying? And if you have comments you’d like to share, suggestions you’d like to make, or questions you’d like to ask about this design in general or this sample in specific, please feel free to leave either or both in the space provided below.

Need to show whether keys (plus a ring of plastic tags, and a keychain of some sort) will fit with the wallet.

Thanks for question and I think if you look at the interior picture, you will see that there additional room above the wallet (or below it if the wallet is inserted second).
      🙂

This bag is going to be one of my favorites, I believe, and this fabric comes to life made up in this bag!!!

    • Kat on May 23, 2025 at 8:11 pm

Thanks Beth. I’ve had this fabric for some time. It’s been waiting for the right bag to use it with. Has that ever happened to you? 🙂

      • Beth on May 24, 2025 at 4:27 pm

LOL Actually, yes it has. I still have several pieces of rather ancient fabric that I’ve not used yet! I need to go through my fabrics to see if there are some I need to rehome!

I love the pattern! The bag looks to be just the right size to carry what I need. How long before it comes out?

    • Kat on May 23, 2025 at 8:12 pm

I’m glad you like it Linda. The pattern is out for testing with the testers now, and should be published sometime in mid to late July if all goes well.
      🙂

This could be my next favorite purse.

      Love hearing this! 🙂

Looks like I would want to carry this. I have more stuff to lug around and most often have a tote as well. But just running errands, this would be my choice .Waiting for release.

    • Kat on May 30, 2025 at 10:31 am

Terrific! Should be sometime in mid to late July, an unusual release time for us.

I didn’t see the dimensions. I love cross body bags as I use walking sticks instead of a walker to get around. This would be wonderful to make.

    • Kat on May 30, 2025 at 10:31 am

      Oh, I shouldve included that! It’s 6″ wide X 9″ tall by 1.5″
      🙂

      • Donna on May 30, 2025 at 11:01 am

This would also be my comment. I couldn’t figure out how large it is.

I want to order this as a kit to make for my elderly mother and maybe one for me as well! I hope it will be available soon.

I was hoping to buy the pattern now. The fabric makes the design pop.

    • Kat on May 30, 2025 at 10:32 am

I’d love to sell it now, but its not quite ready
      🙂

I feel like this is the smaller bag my customers have been asking for at Farmer’s Markets! I really love the curves to the top and the bottom as they feel more elegant than the usual box shape that I have been avoiding in small bag patterns. Looks perfect to put your phone, keys, and a couple cards in and go.

    • Kat on May 31, 2025 at 8:25 am

You’re right, & it’ll actually hold a little more than that too! 🙂

Wow! This is going to be a great everyday carry around bag. The fabric you showed is lovely, but I’m seeing some personal favorites in my stash! I love the configuration with the rear pocket a bit deeper and no zipper, though that would be nice. I use that pocket for necessities like lipstick, meds, etc.
