PPC20: Ornamental Rosettes

So…

in the last post I told you about and showed you the “Gorilla Sample” for this, the 20th edition of Purse Pattern Chronicles. And if you read that post you might recall that there was in fact a pretty serious problem with the snap closure system so of course we made some changes to correct this issue in this round… so let me tell you about this bag!

My suspicion was that the invisible magnetic snaps in the Secret Niche area were placed too close to the little ring tabs along the top edge of the bag. I’ve made this mistake before and I should’ve know better, so for this sample I moved the magnetic snaps inward about 1/2″ and the ring tabs outward about 1/2″.

So…

in the last post I told you about and showed you the “Gorilla Sample” for this, the 20th edition of Purse Pattern Chronicles.

The result? The closure area is SO much better now! As hard as it was to make the “gorilla” sample stay closed, it’s difficult to believe that such a small change would make such a MAJOR difference. It’s just a little annoying that I didn’t recognize that this was going to be a problem on the gorilla sample because now I’m stuck with a bag that won’t stay closed reliably! Oh well, and just in case you can’t tell… this is the bag back with a full width and depth zippered pocket, which is perfect for your passport or other valuable item you want to keep ultra safe!

So here was the crux of the problem with the “Gorilla” sample. You can see the little rings tabs at the top of the bag that I moved outward toward the side edge of the bag, and of course the little magnetic snaps are sewn-in and out of sight since they’re “invisible”. Either way, after making these two little adjustments, this section is secure once again and everything in it will remain “secret”.

And just so you know, perhaps the thing I like best about our new design is that it has four totally interchangeable links to attach the “gate rings”, which can be conveniently opened and moved about (see photo at left) depending on how you wish to carry your bag. I love these gate rings, but I’m thinking that the rings I’m using here (1 1/2″ wide) are a bit on the wide side. I’d like to audition a slightly less wide version in our next sample, perhaps 1 1/4″ and see if I like that look better! All in all, I like carrying this bag cross-body and as a shoulder bag, but it also can be carried as a small sling-type bag AND it can be worn on the hip as well!

And now a few words about this fabric.

It’s called Ornamental Rosettes by the Rubin Design Studio, designed exclusively for eQuilter, which means the only place you’re going to find it is at www.equilter.com

And now… it’s YOUR turn!

I’d love to hear any comments you might have about this new design in general and this sample in particular. And remember, we love reading your comments and answering your questions too, so please feel free to leave either or both in the space provided below.
